What is Thermography? True Breast Cancer Prevention

First the Facts

  • Thermography takes images to detect inflammation in the tissue, a common precursor of cancer.
  • Thermography is the only true form of early breast cancer detection.
  • Mammograms and self examination are still key for staying aware of breast cancer that has already formed.

Studies have found that 70% of breast cancer is detected when a tumor is already over 30 millimeters in size. If this is the case, it’s easy to see why breast cancer is the most lethal kind of cancer, right? Don’t you wish there was a way to catch breast cancer before it was already a problem? Thankfully, there is! There is a touch-free, painless screening procedure that can identify markers for breast cancer before it even materializes—it’s called thermography. If you’re at risk for breast cancer—and keep in mind, you may not know if you are—thermography could be an actual life-saver.

What is Thermography?

Also called thermal imaging, thermography uses a sophisticated camera to take images of the temperature of your tissue. Simple as that! But the information gathered in just this small procedure is truly invaluable.

Thermography examines blood flow patterns which highlight inflammation present in the tissue. Inflammation is an indicator of the body’s reaction to disease and dysfunction. Of the various ways to screen for cancer and disease, thermography is the only form of true early detection!

What’s the Difference Between Thermography and a Mammogram?

If you’re a woman over 40 years old, your doctor is likely encouraging you to go for annual mammograms to screen for breast cancer. Mammograms are a helpful tool in locating masses in breast tissue, but they’re looking for signs of an already present threat.

Thermography, on the other hand, is searching for a precursor to breast cancer; signs that your body is in the developing stage of the disease.

Put another way, thermography looks at disease and dysfunction as it’s developing, while a mammogram looks at disease and dysfunction that has already developed.

Which way would you prefer to screen for breast cancer, as it’s materializing or once it already exists in your body?

So, Should You Still Get a Mammogram?

Yes! Thermography doesn’t “see” cancer the way mammograms do. If you feel a lump or suspect in any way that you’ve developed a mass, a mammogram will be the best way to detect it.

Mammograms are still an essential tool for catching breast cancer, and as we know, early intervention is key. Thermography shouldn’t necessarily replace mammograms and self examination!

But, if your goal is simply to stay ahead of any issues, a thermography scan will show what is happening in your body before it spirals out of control to the point of creating an irreversible issue like cancer.
